It’s the moment your ideas go from sketchbooks and dinner table conversation to something real and tangible. From remodeling a kitchen, building out a mudroom, creating your dream closet or tackling a new build, it’s the first meeting that sets the tone for the entire project.

Here’s how to walk in prepared, and walk out with clarity and confidence.

What to Expect

First things first: relax and take a deep breath. Your initial meeting typically lasts 45 minutes to an hour, and it’s designed to be collaborative, not overwhelming.
Our excellent team of designers have spent years and decades becoming experts in what they do. For you that means a curated specialist in the driver’s seat.

Here’s what usually happens:

A Showroom Tour

You’ll get a chance to see and touch cabinet doors, finishes, hardware, and design features in person. Pictures online are helpful — but nothing compares to seeing materials up close. Settle into the conversation with some freshly brewed coffee, a bubbly beverage, and a snack all at our beverage station.

Preliminary Door & Color Selections

This isn’t about locking yourself into final decisions, but about narrowing things down. We’ll explore styles you’re drawn to and maybe introduce you to options you hadn’t considered.

Design Discovery

This is where the real magic happens. We’ll ask questions about how you use your space, what frustrates you about your current layout, and what you wish you had. Big pots and pans? A spice obsession? Hidden trash? Let’s talk about it.

Brochure & Next Steps

You’ll leave with helpful information, and we’ll schedule a follow-up meeting focused on pricing and refining the design.

Most importantly, you’ll leave with a clearer vision for your project.

And yes — dogs are welcome. We like them almost as much as we like good cabinetry.

What to Bring

You don’t need to show up with a perfectly curated Pinterest board. But a little preparation goes a long way.

Here’s what helps:

  • An idea of what you like — even if it’s just a vibe. Modern? Warm? Clean and simple? Bring inspiration, but keep an open mind.

  • Samples of your selections — flooring, wall paint, backsplash tile, countertops. These pieces help us guide cabinet color and finish decisions.

  • Drawings or PDFs — If you have builder plans, measurements, or inspiration layouts, bring them. The more context we have, the better we can design around your space.

  • Appliance details — If you’ve already selected appliances, bring the specs. Appliance dimensions directly impact layout and cabinet sizing.

A Little Preparation on Your End

Before you walk in, take a few minutes to think through a few key things:

What are your priorities?

Do you need better storage for oversized cookware? A dedicated baking zone? Hidden charging drawers? Knowing what matters most helps us design intentionally.

Are you tackling more than just the kitchen?

If you’re also planning windows, closets, or other built-ins, mention it early. It helps us create a cohesive look throughout your home.

What’s your realistic budget range?

This one matters — and honesty here helps you the most.

Our job is to get you as much of what you want as possible, within realistic parameters. We love helping clients stretch their budget strategically. But we can only do that when we understand the boundaries.

There’s real satisfaction in helping someone achieve something they didn’t think was possible — without putting them in a stressful financial position.

Questions you should be asking - no matter if you’re meeting with us, or another cabinet design company.

That first meeting isn’t just about us asking questions about your project. You should come ready with some questions of your own.

Consider asking:

  • What are your lead times?

  • What guarantees do you offer?

  • Is there a delivery fee?

  • Do you handle installation?

  • How far into the project can I change my mind on colors or door styles?

A good design partner welcomes questions. Transparency builds trust.

Final Thoughts

Your first meeting isn’t about pressure, but partnership. Partnership in building a kitchen or space in your home that will hold precious memories for decades.

Come prepared, stay open-minded, and be honest about your goals. With the right team, you’ll leave feeling heard, informed, and excited about what’s next.

And maybe with a new favorite coffee flavor, too.
